Chart of the Day: Election day map focusing on the people within places, rather than the places
I can’t resist the draw of the compelling story of the day. My chart of the day is this map that represents counties with dots proportional to their population, created by Karim Douïeb and shared via this tweet (which has a cool video that shifts from the typical county map to this, and then back again). It provides the geographic distribution of the electoral map without over-emphasizing areas with a lot of land and not a lot of people.
I would like to see a shades of purple version, where each county is colored according to the vote ratios for the two candidates, rather than assigned to the winner of the plurality of the vote, like this one, shared by Adam Grant, but using the population dot visualization.
